A friendly storage guide from Nutology
Hong Kong summers are long and humid. Nuts are natural, delicate foods — but with a few simple habits, every pack of Nutology will stay fresh to the very last piece.
Why Storage Matters
Nuts, dried fruits, and seeds are naturally rich, and naturally sensitive. The unsaturated oils that give them their flavour are the same oils that react to heat, humidity, and strong odours. In Hong Kong, summer typically runs from mid-April to mid-October — long stretches of warm, humid air that can quietly shorten the life of even the best-sealed nuts.
The good news: with a few small habits, every pack of Nutology can stay as fresh as the day it left our warehouse.
Four Simple Habits
1. Keep them in a cool, dry place. Ideally below 15°C. A pantry shelf away from the stove and direct sunlight works well. An air-conditioned room is even better.
2. Once opened, use an airtight container. Our aluminum pouches do a lot of the work, but after opening, transfer any leftovers to an airtight container to limit air and moisture contact.
3. Keep away from strong odours. Nuts and seeds are porous and readily absorb surrounding smells. Store them away from spices, coffee beans, onions, or garlic so their natural flavour stays intact.
4. We don't recommend the fridge. Many people assume cold is safer — but we actually suggest not refrigerating your nuts long-term. When nuts move from cold to warm, moisture condenses on the surface, which can invite mould if not handled quickly. If refrigeration is unavoidable in extreme heat, keep them in an airtight container and let them return to room temperature before opening.
A Note on Dried Fruit
Our dried fruit contains no added sugar or preservatives, which means it retains natural moisture. You may occasionally notice small water droplets or a light, sugary frost on the surface — this is a natural phenomenon as fruit sugars respond to temperature changes. It does not affect quality or safety.
⚠️ Please note: this applies only to dried fruit. If you notice moisture droplets on pure nuts (such as almonds, walnuts, or cashews) after opening, this is not normal — please stop consumption.
Check Your Pantry
We suggest a quick pantry check every one to two months, rotating older packs to the front. If you notice any of the following, please don't consume the product:
- A strong rancid or cardboard-like smell
- Visible mould or unusual discolouration
- An off-odour or moisture droplets upon opening
Our Promise, and Yours
Every Nutology pack leaves our warehouse sealed with a food-grade aluminum pouch, an oxygen absorber, and a desiccant — at peak freshness. From the moment it reaches your hands, the next stage of the journey is yours.
A great pack of nuts is the shared work of origin, craft, packaging — and a little care at home.
Here's to that clean, lightly sweet, buttery aroma every time you open one.
